Dear Neighbor,

It’s been an exciting, productive few weeks in the 20th District! From the celebration of the signing of House Bill 5581 creating the Polish Heritage Corridor to commemorating Juneteenth, it was great to reflect on the cultures and diversity that make our communities so rich.

As the weather gets hotter, read on for more information on resources, opportunities for kids and teens in the city and more. Additionally, COVID-19 vaccines have now been approved for children as young as six months of age. Come out to Rincon Family Services at 3710 N. Kedzie Ave. on Friday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to noon for an opportunity to get vaccinated, or visit our featured resources page for more information on getting vaccinated in Chicago.

As always, feel free reach out to my office for assistance by calling 773-278-2020, sending a text message to 773-207-7838, or sending us a note at www.senatorpacionezayas.com/contact-us.

Sincerely,

State Senator Cristina Pacione-Zayas | 20th District

In the Community

Celebration of HB 5581

The Polish Museum of America invited me, Rep. Will Guzzardi, Rep. Delia Ramirez and other community leaders for a celebration of HB 5581. The Milwaukee Avenue Polish Heritage Corridor is a welcome part of Chicago and surrounding communities. Read more about the new designation here.

More than $175 million announced for early childhood

Effective July 1, the Illinois Department of Human Services announced new investments to strengthen and grow Illinois’ early childhood education and care field. These investments will help improve support for children, families, and the early childhood workforce by enabling providers to continue serving their local communities.

New laws expand protections for survivors of sexual assault

It was an honor to stand with Kaylyn and other advocates for the protection of survivors of sexual assault. We hear you, we stand by you, we support you. The legislation signed this month is a true reflection of trauma-informed policymaking in Illinois. Read more about the new legislation here.

Server for an Hour

I had a great time participating in “Server for an Hour” at the fabulous Sol de Mexico Tierra Azteca with Rep. Will Guzzardi and Rep. Delia Ramirez! As we work to address the subminimum wage issue in the service industry, advocates like One Fair Wage and Women Employed are using innovative ways to raise awareness and one day #RaiseTheWage.

Congratulations to our graduates!

I was honored to attend multiple high school graduations throughout the community over the last few weeks. Our graduates haven’t had it easy, and I couldn’t be more proud of them for completing this milestone. See more pictures from recent graduations here.
